Andover's housing stock spans several distinct eras. We check all of this at survey rather than assuming a village cottage is wired the same as a 1990s semi.

Andover sits inland on the edge of the Hampshire chalk downland, which brings a different weather pattern to the coast: less salt exposure, but more exposed, wind-scoured roofs on higher ground towards Stockbridge and the Test Valley's rolling hills. Roofs on exposed chalk downland sites need fixings and mounting systems specified for wind loading, not just for weight, and we factor local terrain into that decision rather than using a blanket specification for every property.

Orientation varies significantly across the town's different building phases. Estate housing at Picket Piece tends to have consistent roof planes that are easy to assess for south, east or west-facing arrays. Older village houses and outbuildings around Anna Valley and Charlton often have more complex rooflines, dormers, multiple pitches and mature trees nearby, all of which affect where panels perform best and where they simply will not, and we would rather tell you that plainly than fit an underperforming array.

Supply arrangements differ noticeably between Andover's town-centre streets and its rural surroundings. In-town properties typically have a straightforward single-phase supply adequate for solar, battery and an EV charger without further work. Rural Test Valley properties, particularly further towards Ludgershall and Whitchurch, more often run on older single-phase supplies with limited headroom, which can mean a DNO application is needed before a battery or EV charger installation goes ahead, especially where a household is adding several loads at once.

Off-street parking is generally good across Andover's estates and villages compared with denser towns, which makes EV charger installs more straightforward here than in more built-up parts of Hampshire, though cable runs from consumer unit to charger position still need proper planning on older or larger rural plots where the distance involved is greater than on a standard semi.
